Rook
The Rook is a piece that can move along the rows and ranks, which is to say it can move sideways and forwards and backwards. Simply called 'orthogonally.' Once the Rook has captured a piece, however, the Rook's move ceases.
In the original game of chess, the rook represented a chariot. In Persian, the word rukh means chariot.

Today, however, the Rook is more commonly called the Castle.
